At FutureLearn, we’re passionate about the power of lifelong learning. We help learners from all over the world progress in their careers – and invest in their futures.
We truly believe that up-skilling is a worthy investment, and we hope to empower our learners to take control of their careers through personalised learning pathways – giving them progress at their fingertips.
Partnering with 260+ world-class educational partners, including prestigious universities, global brands and industry partners, we offer our 20 million-strong learner community the opportunity to discover and access flexible, high-quality online courses and degrees.
We’re not here just to teach new skills (although we do that well), we want to help transform lives. FutureLearn is looking to build our teams with people who share our passion for lifelong learning, career empowerment and education for all. If that sounds like you, get in touch. You could help us achieve our biggest goal yet – becoming the world’s best AI-powered, career-based learning platform and OPM.
Data is at the core of what we do and it helps us understand how people learn and how er can keep improving their experience. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a hands on Data Engineer who wants to build and shape our data platform, not just keep it running.
This role is well suited to an ambitious individual who enjoys learning, likes getting stuck in, and wants to make a real impact in an education and training environment. You will work closely with our data leadership team to create clear, trusted data that supports better decisions across the business.
Your Role
You will be actively involved in shaping how data flows through FutureLearn, from designing and modelling data in Snowflake using dbt Core, through to building and orchestrating pipelines with Airflow and Airbyte. Working within an AWS environment, you will help support change, improvement and scale, while bringing spreadsheets and ad‑hoc datasets into a more structured, reliable setup. You will also play a key role in creating sensible processes that make data easier to trust and use, and in exploring how AI could be integrated into data workflows over time.
This is a genuinely hands‑on role with space to experiment, learn and influence how things are done.
What we’re looking for
We’re not expecting everything — but you should bring a strong foundation and the appetite to grow:
Strong Communication Skills
Experience with Snowflake, dbt, and data modelling
Knowledge of AWS and data orchestration (Airflow)
Familiarity with ETL tools like Airbyte or similar
Python skills
An interest in AI, data quality and governance, including GDPR
Experience in SaaS, education or training environments is a bonus
About you
You will thrive in this role if you enjoy building structure where it doesn’t yet exist and prefer a hands‑on role with real accountability. You’re naturally curious, open to new ways of working, and motivated by long‑term impact rather than quick fixes. You communicate clearly, work well with others, and are excited by the idea of growing into future leadership while helping to build a strong data team over time.
Why FutureLearn?
FutureLearn is all about widening access to learning and helping people build skills that matter. We’re a collaborative, purpose‑driven organisation where people are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and keep learning themselves. You will work with thoughtful, supportive colleagues and have real scope to influence how data supports learners, educators and partners as we grow.
If you’re excited by the idea of using data to support education and training — and want a role where you can really shape what’s next — we’d love to hear from you.
